What should I pay attention to when using solar edge sealing tape?

Solar edge sealing tape is mainly used for sealing the frame of solar panels to protect the panels from the external environment and improve their stability and service life. Pay attention to the following items when using:

Before construction

Selection of adhesive tape: according to the working environment, service life and budget of solar panels, choose the edge sealing adhesive tape with appropriate material, width, thickness and viscosity. If it is in a high temperature environment, it is necessary to choose a tape with good high temperature resistance.

Check the quality: check whether the surface of the adhesive tape is smooth, and whether there are defects such as bubbles, impurities or damage. At the same time, check the viscosity of the adhesive tape. If the viscosity is insufficient or too large, it will affect the use effect.

Cleaning the surface: thoroughly remove dust, dirt, grease, water stains and other impurities on the surface of the solar panel frame with clean cloth, brush or compressed air. After cleaning, wipe the surface of the frame with alcohol or special cleaner to enhance the adhesion of the adhesive tape. After the detergent is completely volatilized and the surface is dry, the adhesive tape can be adhered.

work progress

Environmental requirements: the temperature of the construction environment should be kept within the recommended range of the tape product manual, generally 5℃-40℃. If the temperature is too low, the viscosity of the adhesive tape will be reduced, resulting in unstable adhesion; If the temperature is too high, the tape may soften and deform, which will affect the sealing effect. At the same time, the construction environment should be kept dry to avoid construction in a humid environment, such as rainy days and foggy days. If the humidity is too high, it will affect the adhesive force between the adhesive tape and the surface of the frame, resulting in sealing failure.

Sticking operation: cut the tape with appropriate length from the roll tape to avoid waste as much as possible. Align one end of the adhesive tape with the initial position of the frame of the solar panel to ensure that the edge of the adhesive tape is aligned with the edge of the frame, and then slowly paste the adhesive tape onto the frame. At the same time, use tools such as fingers, scrapers or rollers to press hard from the initial end of the adhesive tape along the pasting direction, so that the adhesive tape can fully contact the surface of the frame, eliminate the air between them, and ensure that the adhesive tape is firm and smooth, and there are no bubbles, wrinkles or warping. In the process of pasting, if problems such as tape position deviation or air bubbles are found, the tape should be uncovered and pasted again in time to ensure the pasting quality.

Connection treatment: If it is necessary to use multi-section adhesive tapes for edge sealing, the ends of two sections of adhesive tapes should be partially overlapped at the joint of the adhesive tapes, and the overlapping length is generally 20-30 mm. Then, according to the above-mentioned pasting method, press the overlapping parts with tools to firmly bond the two sections of adhesive tapes together, so as to ensure that the joint parts are well sealed without leakage.

After construction

Check the sealing: after the construction is completed, the sealing effect of the tape should be comprehensively checked. Check whether the adhesive tape is firmly bonded to the frame of the solar panel, and whether there is any phenomenon such as edge warping, blistering or separation. At the same time, check the sealing performance of the tape, especially at the joint and corner of the tape, to see if there is leakage. If problems are found, they should be repaired or re-taped in time.

Avoid touching: During a period of time after the tape is pasted, avoid touching, scraping or squeezing the tape unnecessarily, so as not to damage the sealing performance and bonding effect of the tape. The specific time to avoid touching can be determined according to the type of adhesive tape, the use environment and the suggestions in the product manual, which is generally 24-48 hours.

Regular maintenance: During the use of solar panels, the edge sealing tape should be inspected and maintained regularly. It is suggested that the adhesive tape should be thoroughly inspected every 3-6 months to see if there are problems such as aging, deformation, cracking, degumming or decreased sealing performance. If problems are found, corresponding repair or replacement measures should be taken in time according to the damage degree and actual situation of the tape to ensure the sealing performance and normal operation of the solar panel and prolong its service life.
